Nokia 8.1 Plus with hole-in-display design and dual-camera setup leaks

In Europe, the Nokia 8.1’s retail price of €399 places it firmly in mid-range smartphone territory. Similarly, the flagship Nokia 9 PureView’s rumored price tag of €799 means not everybody will be able to afford it. Fortunately, it seems Nokia will soon bridge this big gap.

Set to arrive as the Nokia 8.1 Plus later on this year, the new smartphone will act as an upper-midrange entry. Unlike Nokia’s most recent devices which adopted the notch, though, this particular model will feature a display hole in the top-left corner. This should then be accompanied by tiny bezels above and on either side of the 6.22-inch display and a slim chin below which is home to the Nokia branding.

Taking a look at the smartphone’s rear, a vertical dual-camera setup can be seen in the middle of the panel complete with ZEISS Optics branding and a dual-LED flash. This is combined with a rear-facing fingerprint scanner just below. Also present on the rear is the Nokia logo and the Android One branding – the device should launch with stock Android 9 Pie straight out of the box.

Completing the external setup is a bottom-firing speaker, a USB Type-C port, and a 3.5mm headphone jack.

The Nokia 8.1 Plus will probably be announced next month at MWC 2019 alongside a number of other Nokia-branded devices. However, at the moment, the internal specifications remain unclear. After all, the regular Nokia 8.1 already sports the Snapdragon 710.
