Sony will update the entire Xperia Z series to Android 5.0 Lollipop

Yesterday, after Google announced Android 5.0 Lollipop, Motorola was the first to unveil a list of smartphones that would be updated to the new version of the OS. Of course, we also know that HTC’s One (M8) and One (M7) are going to be updated, in addition to Google’s Nexus line, and all the Google Play Edition devices.

Today, Sony joined the party by announcing that its “entire premium Z series” will be updated to Lollipop. More exactly, this means that the following devices will get a taste of Lollipop:

Xperia Z
Xperia ZL
Xperia ZR
Xperia Tablet Z
Xperia Z Ultra
Xperia Z1
Xperia Z1S
Xperia Z1 Compact
Xperia Z2
Xperia Z2 Tablet
Xperia Z3
Xperia Z3v
Xperia Z3 Compact
Xperia Z3 Tablet Compact

Naturally, the Xperia Z Ultra Google Play Edition will be the first to get the update - sometimes in the next few weeks. As for the rest of the pack, Sony can’t say exactly when they will be upgraded, but we should hear more on this soon. All in all, great news for Xperia Z owners!
