LG Optimus Zip brings entry-level Android to TracFone
Pay as you go carrier TracFone has a new Android model for you, the LG Optimus Zip. Despite the name of the unit, it isn't completely bereft of features although it is an entry-level device. Even without pricing info, we could tell by the specs that you won't have to take out a loan to buy the phone (Hey! That rhymes!). What gives away the low-rent nature of the device? Well, it could be the 3.2 inch display which used to be called generous but is now quite miserly. How about the single-core 800MHz processor or the 3.2MP camera? At least it's not Android 1.5 running the show as Gingerbread is installed.

What the LG Optimus Zip lacks in high-end features, it has in home screens. The device has 7 of those for users to fill up with widgets and shortcuts. The battery gives users 5 hours of talk time and a 4GB microSD card is included with the phone which is packaged in a blister pack and hangs on a hook at your local Walmart. Oh! Pulling a Columbo moment, we almost forgot to tell you that there is a side-sliding QWERTY on the phone.

We can think of the hilarious moments that will ensue with a purchase of this model.  "Hey buddy, watcha got there?", "Zip". Smack. Nonetheless, when the pricing info is revealed, you will probably find this to be a good first smartphone for the line-crossing first time user, a good gift for the back to school kids in your life, or for those who want Android on a budget.
