Alcatel announces the IDOL 3 pair of smartphones, hoping to rival Apple's dream iPhone 6 duo
At MWC 2015, Alcatel introduced its new flagship smartphone, the Alcatel OneTouch IDOL 3. Looking at its product image, you might recognize a familiar sight, and your eyes don't lie! There is a 4.7-inch IDOL 3 and a 5.5-inch IDOL 3, and they closely resemble another pair of premium smartphones with said display diagonals.

Regardless, the IDOL 3 smartphones go beyond mirroring the iPhone 6 with the addition of JBL front-facing speakers, Harman Cardon Clari-Fi tech, 13-megapixel cameras, and something rather odd and unique - these phones are reversible! That is, users can actually grab them upside-down, and their interface automatically flips. This sounds awesome for those times you reach for your phone in a hurry and end up grabbing it from the "wrong" side.

Moving onto the cameras, the main cam is a 13MP unit with a large aperture for low light, while the front snapper has a wide 84-degree angle for selfies and Fast Face Focus software that detects faces in 0.26 seconds.

The industry's first reversible smartphone.

Behind the IDOL 3 smartphones' displays lies the Technicolor Color Enhance technology that promises superb color rendering, enhanced visibility, and more goodies. We'd rather talk more about it after we've examined it with our display test.

Spec-wise, the 4.7-incher rocks a 720p resolution display and a quad-core CPU (either the Snapdragon 410 or Snapdragon 610), while the big one bumps it to 1080p resolution and 64-bit octa-core silicon (the Qualcomm Snapdragon 615). Otherwise, both models feature the same extras we mentioned, and both have 4G LTE connectivity. The IDOL 3 phones will ship with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box.

We don't get to learn the prices and release dates, but seeing that both Idols run on Qualcomm silicon which supports US LTE networks, we won't be surprised if they reach American shores too.
