iPhone Air 2 release date
The iPhone Air 2 could arrive in September 2026 or slip into spring 2027, depending on how Apple ends up adjusting its release schedule.
| Device | Announcement | Market release |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone Air 2 | September, 2026* | September, 2026* |
| iPhone Air | September 9, 2025 | September 19, 2025 |
* - probable dates
The original iPhone Air debuted in September 2025, and almost every iPhone lineup before it also launched in the fall. For that reason, there is no real reason to assume Apple will suddenly change its usual timing next year. What could shift, though, is how many models Apple decides to release in the fall.
Some rumors claim the standard iPhone 18 and the iPhone Air 2 might not launch with the rest of the lineup in fall 2026. Instead, they could arrive later, alongside the iPhone 18e in 2027.

There's also a possibility that Apple may decide not to release an iPhone Air successor. Reportedly, Apple's main competitor, Samsung, has chosen this route with its own super-slim model, the Galaxy S26 Edge, which is currently believed to have been cancelled.
And now, for the first time so far, we hear that the iPhone Air 2 may actually get replaced by an iPhone 18 Plus. In a note to investors, an analyst claims that Apple may bring either the iPhone Air 2 or an iPhone 18 Plus together with the base iPhone 18. We don't know if this is just speculation at this point of if it's coming from industry sources, so do keep that in mind.
iPhone Air 2 price
The iPhone Air 2's potential price is still unknown. Apple may decide to keep the same starting price as its predecessor. If that's the case, that would mean the iPhone Air 2 may start at $999 for 256 GB of storage.
| iPhone model | 256 GB of storage | 512 GB of storage | 1 TB of storage |
|---|---|---|---|
| iPhone Air 2 | $999* | $1,199* | $1,399* |
| iPhone Air | $999 | $1,199 | $1,399 |
*- anticipated prices
However, a price hike is not unlikely either. The entire industry is experiencing price hikes, and Apple may need to raise prices too.
For one, we have the rising prices of RAM and other internal components. The economic situation is changing (Samsung raised the prices for its S26 series).
iPhone Air 2 camera

Currently, the iPhone Air 2 is not expected to get a huge upgrade in the camera department.
iPhone Air 2 expected camera setup:
- 48 MP main camera
- 18 MP selfie camera
Rumors are contradictory on the topic. One leak suggests Apple may add a second camera. If that is true, it would be a big step up from the current Air, which only has a single 48 MP snapper on the back.
Potentially, Apple may complement the main sensor with an ultra-wide lens (another 48 MP one). That would put the iPhone Air 2 on the same level as the current iPhone 17 with two 48 MP cameras.
According to rumors, this could be achieved if Apple uses a new Face ID unit, which would free up some space for Apple to add a second rear camera in that slim body.
Meanwhile, another report suggests nothing will change, and Apple will stick with the current setup, leaving the Air with just one camera at the back.
The current iPhone Air's 48 MP Fusion camera packs four focal lengths, including 28 mm and 35 mm options, plus a 2x telephoto lens with an updated Photonic Engine. It delivers good photos, but the lack of a full telephoto lens is noticeable.
iPhone Air 2 storage
iPhone Air 2 expected storage capacity:
- 1 TB
- 512 GB
- 256 GB
Apple finally ditched the 128 GB base option with the iPhone 17 series and the first iPhone Air. We don't expect it to return.
So, the next-gen iPhone Air 2 will likely stick to the same storage tiers as the current model, with three options and the top tier reaching 1 TB.
iPhone Air 2 design
There are no huge changes expected for the iPhone Air 2. The device is likely keeping a similar design to its first generation and will remain Apple's thinnest phone. The current Air is just 5.6 mm thin, and the next one could be around the same or even slimmer if Apple finds a way to shave it down a bit more.
The new Air is expected to keep using titanium to balance strength and lightness, just like its predecessor. It is said to come with Ceramic Shield protection on the front and back.
An IP68 rating is also a given. Every new flagship needs solid dust and water resistance, so the next Air should have at least that.
The Action button for shortcuts and the Camera Control button are reportedly making a comeback as well.
Color options? Still a mystery. However, Apple may go in line with the Air strategy and once again offer some subdued, elegant and "air-y" colors for the device.
iPhone Air 2 display
| Phone Name | Screen size | Brightness |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone Air 2 (2026) | 6,5"* | 3,000* |
| iPhone Air | 6.5" | 3,000 |
* - anticipated sizes
There aren’t any rumors yet about the iPhone Air 2 display, just like most other specs. But based on the current model, you can probably expect a 6.5-inch screen with up to 3,000 nits peak brightness.
And since Apple finally ditched the old 60Hz refresh rate, the next Air will almost certainly come with ProMotion, which is Apple's way of calling the 120Hz dynamic refresh rate.
iPhone Air 2 battery
Battery life is always a tricky balance with super slim phones. So far, leaks are silent on the iPhone Air 2's battery. However, Apple doesn’t appear to be ready to adopt silicon carbon batteries yet, so we're likely not getting a much bigger battery than what we already have.
Presently, the iPhone Air has a 3,149 mAh battery, which is decent for daily use. Apple brought back the MagSafe battery and made it exclusive to the Air – and chances are, the next generation will follow the same path.
The current Air scores about 6h 41m in battery tests, ranking #79 over the past two years. That’s just shy of the class average of 7h 9m, and it even beats the Galaxy S25 Edge, despite the latter having a much bigger battery.

Charging will likely stick with MagSafe support, along with wired speeds that aren’t exactly blazing fast – just enough to keep you going.
iPhone Air 2 features and software
By the time the iPhone Air 2 (2026) arrives, iOS 27 should be out, so expect the new Air to come with the latest software preloaded. Apple usually keeps its devices updated for years, so six or more years of software and security updates is a safe bet.
Apple Intelligence will definitely be onboard, meaning all the AI features from the current Air will carry over – and probably a few new tricks, too. Hopefully, by next year, Apple will finally roll out the upgraded Siri, and the Air 2 will support it as well.

iPhone Air 2 hardware and specs
iPhone Air 2's expected specs:
- A20 Pro chipset (2nm)
- RAM: 8 GB
- Battery: ~ 3,149 mAh
- Charging: up to 20W wired charging and up to 20W wireless charging
- Storage: 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB
- Camera setup: 48 MP main camera and 18 MP selfie camera
- Connectivity: Wi-Fi 7, 5G, Bluetooth 6, eSIM only
The iPhone Air 2 will most likely come with Apple’s next-gen chipset, the A20. Since the current Air uses the Pro chip, the new one will probably also get the A20 Pro, just like the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max.
And this could be a big deal. While the A19 in the iPhone 17 series is built on a 3nm process, the A20 is rumored to move to 2nm (N2). That could mean around 15% more performance while using 30% less power – easily one of Apple’s boldest chip upgrades yet.
Moreover, Apple is reportedly working on the C2 modem, the follow-up to the C1 from the iPhone 16e. This next-gen 5G chip could launch with the iPhone 18 lineup in 2026 and aims to fully cut ties with Qualcomm. Expect better mmWave support, faster carrier aggregation, and improved power efficiency.

Should I wait for iPhone Air 2?
- You should wait for the iPhone Air 2 if you’re not in a rush. The phone is still a ways off, and if you want the super slim iPhone but prefer the second-gen model – which usually fixes early issues and feels more polished – the Air 2 could be worth holding out for.
- You should not wait for the iPhone Air 2 if you want a new iPhone right now. The current generation dropped not too long ago, so if you’re not up for waiting for months, grabbing it now makes more sense. Plus, if super slim phones aren’t really your style, you might be happier with the regular iPhone 17 or one of the Pro models.
